Sachin Ahir elected unopposed as Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council

A major political development was witnessed in Maharashtra today. Just 24 hours after leaving Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and joining the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, Sachin Ahir was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council.

Initially, Shiv Sena (UBT) had fielded Jagannath Abhyankar as its candidate, but citing the tradition of the House, the government appealed for the election to be held unopposed. Following this, the opposition withdrew its nomination, and Sachin Ahir was unanimously elected as Deputy Chairman.

In any case, the Mahayuti alliance already had a clear majority in the Legislative Council, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi had significantly fewer members. After Sachin Ahir’s unopposed election, political rhetoric intensified.(UPDATED ON 1ST JULY 2026)
