Bulldozers to Be Used at Jauhar University; Order Issued to Demolish 38 Out of 40 Buildings

Bulldozers will be used at Jauhar University, owned by former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister and senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. The Rampur Development Authority has issued a demolition order. There are 40 buildings at Azam Khan’s Jauhar University in Rampur, of which only two have approved building plans. The remaining 38 buildings are illegal and have been ordered to be demolished.

This action has been taken under Section 27(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973. After a detailed hearing and examination of documents, the order classified 38 buildings on the university campus as unauthorized constructions and directed their demolition.

According to District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, the Rampur Development Authority also stated in its order that the university management was itself aware of this fact. Approval is required for construction, as it had obtained permission from the District Panchayat for two buildings. Despite this, the other buildings were constructed without approval. The authority considered this a violation of the rules and stated that action can be taken against such constructions under Section 59 of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, even if the area was later brought under the jurisdiction of the Development Authority. There are 40 buildings on the university campus, many of which contain rooms.(UPDATED ON 15TH JULY 2026)
