Government increases windfall tax on diesel and ATF exports;

On Monday, the government increased the Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED), also known as the windfall tax, on exports of diesel and ATF (Aviation Turbine Fuel). The information was disclosed through a government notification. According to the notification issued by the Revenue Department, the export duty on diesel has been increased by 50 paise per litre, from ₹13.5 per litre to ₹14 per litre. Meanwhile, the duty on ATF exports has been raised by ₹3 per litre, from ₹9.5 per litre to ₹12.5 per litre.
There has been no change in the tax imposed on petrol exports. The duty on petrol exports remains unchanged at ₹1.5 per litre. According to the government notification, the new export duty rates will come into effect on Tuesday, June 16, and will remain effective for the next two weeks under the government’s review mechanism.
Earlier, the government had reduced the taxes imposed on exports of petrol, diesel, and ATF, with the revised rates taking effect from June 1. According to a notification dated May 31, the SAED on petrol exports was reduced from ₹3 per litre to ₹1.5 per litre. Similarly, the tax on diesel exports was reduced from ₹16.5 per litre to ₹13.5 per litre.(updated on 15th june 2026)
