SIT reaches Ayodhya to investigate Ram Temple donation scam, will submit report in 15 days

A major political controversy has erupted over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Samajwadi Party first accused officials of stealing donation money and demanded action. Following a request from the Ram Temple Committee, the government has formed an investigation team. The SIT team has now arrived at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and will submit its final report within the next 15 days.

The investigation has begun to find answers to several questions, including whether donations from the Ram Temple were stolen, how much money was involved, and since when the alleged theft had been taking place. Around 50 people who are involved in counting the donations will come under the scope of the SIT inquiry. So far, nearly ₹2 crore in cash has reportedly been recovered from five employees.

At the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust, the Uttar Pradesh government has constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged irregularities related to temple donations. The SIT includes Lucknow Divisional Commissioner IAS Vijay Vishwas Pant, IG (Range) IPS Kiran S, and Finance Department Special Secretary Neel Ratan. The committee has been directed to submit its preliminary and final reports as soon as possible. The team is being led by 2004-batch IAS officer Vijay Vishwas Pant. Team member Kiran S is a 2008-batch IPS officer who has previously served with the CBI and Interpol, while Neel Ratan Kumar has more than 36 years of experience in the finance and accounts cadre.(updated on 15th june 2026)
