Solar Sakhi Initiative Equips Women with Clean Energy
A 10-days skill development programme under the Solar Sakhi Project, supported through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Artemis Hospitals and implemented by Paryavaran Shiksha Evam Sanrakshan Samiti (PSSS-India), concluded successfully at Chakkarpur, Gurugram. The initiative aims to build women’s technical capacities in solar energy, promote clean energy adoption, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for underserved communities.
The valedictory programme was inaugurated by Shalini Kanwar Chand, CSR chairperson and President Artemis Health Sciences Foundation. She distributed certificates and solar kits to the participants and highlighted the importance of women’s participation in India’s clean energy transition.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Chand said that the Solar Sakhi initiative is an important step towards women’s skill development, economic empowerment, and the promotion of renewable energy. She noted that trained women can serve as community ambassadors, encouraging the adoption of clean energy solutions while spreading awareness about energy conservation and environmental sustainability.
During the training, participants received hands-on instruction in assembling, testing, operating, and maintaining solar lantern kits using a Do-It-Yourself approach. The solar lanterns provide reliable lighting and mobile phone charging facilities, particularly benefiting households with limited or no access to electricity.
Experts also conducted technical sessions on renewable energy technologies, climate change, energy conservation, and the safe use and maintenance of solar-powered devices. As part of the broader Solar Sakhi initiative, solar street lights and other solar energy solutions are being promoted across communities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and public spaces in Gurugram.
Representatives from the Artemis Hospitals CSR team, including Jatin Singh and Aditya Tripathi, attended the event. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from women beneficiaries, community members, and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Anand Patel, President of Paryavaran Shiksha Evam Sanrakshan Samiti (PSSS-India), said that the organisation’s objective extends beyond technical training to enabling women to become self-reliant through green skills and sustainable livelihood opportunities. He added that the Solar Sakhi Project is helping women develop technical expertise, confidence, and leadership while supporting India’s transition towards clean energy.
The successful implementation of the programme was supported by Subhra Suman, Rashmi Saini, Kavita Kumari, Sanjeev Gupta, and other members of the PSSS-India team.
The Solar Sakhi Project represents a significant step towards advancing women’s socio-economic empowerment while promoting renewable energy, environmental stewardship, and climate-resilient communities.
