LS Passes Bill Making Provision For Electronic Or Digital Record Of Bankers’ Books

Lok Sabha has been adjourned for the day after passing the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026. When the House assembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Bill which seeks to provide a law relating to evidence with respect to bankers’ books and to align it with contemporary digital banking practices. It aims to modernise the legal framework to meet the requirements of the present banking system.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed concern over the continued disruptions in the proceedings of the House by the opposition members

Mr Rijiju alleged that Congress, Communist party and Samajwadi party have opposed Lord Ram and disrespected him. He claimed that these parties had protested against the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Earlier, when the Lok Sabha began its proceedings at 11 AM, Speaker Om Birla tried to take up the Question Hour, but the opposition members raised the issue of alleged police action during students’ protests. The opposition members were demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on alleged police action during students’ protests.

Mr Birla urged all members to cooperate in the smooth conduct of Question Hour. He said, Question Hour is an important part of the proceedings, which provides every member an opportunity to raise issues.
