PM Modi targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government in Jalandhar.Modi said, “The people who are in power in Punjab today used to proudly claim that they would change the politics of the country. But today the nation is seeing their true face. Just 2-3 days ago, a Delhi court convicted one of their leaders. He was accused of inciting riots and murdering an Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer, and just look at their shamelessness… they are questioning the court’s verdict and viewing it through the lens of religion and faith, only because their vote bank is at stake.”

He said, “Today, from this मंच, I also pay my tributes to Punjab’s great son, Sardar Teja Singh Samundri Ji, as today marks his 100th martyrdom anniversary. During British rule, he led several movements to protect Sikh interests. Sardar Teja Singh Ji dedicated his entire life to serving the motherland. The martyrdom anniversary programs beginning today will inspire people.”

He said that what is happening in Punjab today is no secret to anyone. Here, the picture of betrayal is being hidden through advertisements. Today, law and order in Punjab is in a terrible state. No one can say when or where a gang war might break out or from which direction bullets may start flying. Doing business has become difficult here. People are openly being extorted. Even police stations are not safe; they are attacked frequently. Most tragically, Punjab’s future is also being destroyed. Drug traffickers are roaming freely, and Punjab’s youth are being pushed into the quagmire of drug addiction.

The Prime Minister said that the work being done today should have been completed 30-40 years ago, but these tasks were never a priority for previous governments. The poor and the middle class also deserve facilities, cleanliness, and respect for their time, but earlier governments did not even discuss these issues. India could not have become a developed nation with such thinking. Therefore, over the past years, the BJP government has started changing the situation. Today, railway stations across the country are being transformed. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, more than 1,300 stations are being modernized, and work has already been completed at many of them. Today, 75 such stations were inaugurated.

Prime Minister Modi also flagged off the Sant Ravidas Express train service between Amritsar (Chheharta) and Varanasi. This will establish direct rail connectivity between two major spiritual and cultural centers.

This is the Prime Minister’s second visit to Jalandhar after his visit to Dera Sachkhand Ballan in February this year. The visit is considered significant because the BJP is preparing to contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections on its own.(UPDATED ON 17TH JULY 2026)
