India And Indonesia Looking For Greater Cooperation-Sandeep Chakravarty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia, beginning will give impetus to the existing relationship between the two countries and will also open up new areas of cooperation.
In an interview to Akashvani in Jakarta today, Mr Sandeep Chakravarty, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, said that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia from the 6th to the 8th of July, there will be several new areas of cooperation that will open up between India and Indonesia and intensification in the relationships and greater economic engagement between these two large countries will be visible.
Mr Chakravarty said that there are no negative issues between the two countries. He said that as India and Indonesia do not have any disputes or divergence of views, both nations are now looking for greater strategic cooperation to work towards Viksit Bharat and Golden Indonesia. He said both countries are trying to find synergy between Indian requirements and Indonesian economic policies.
Speaking on the comprehensive strategic partnership, Mr Chakravarty said this partnership has several pillars. One of them, of course, is defence and security. Apart from that, there is greater economic content in the relationship. He said the trade is more than 30 billion dollars, and we are looking at improving our trade figures. He said we are looking at greater investments not only from India into Indonesia but also from Indonesia to India.
Being maritime neighbours, we are looking at connectivity; we are looking at capacity building. Speaking on the sectors that are likely to benefit after this visit, the ambassador said defence and security, investments, economic integration, infrastructure development, some port development, greater connectivity, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, capacity building, and educational exchanges will definitely have a positive impact.
Mr Chakravarty informed that agreements and MOUs will be signed right from maritime security to space cooperation to science and technology. Replying to a question on strengthening the Indo-Pacific region, the Ambassador said India and Indonesia are the two major powers in the Indo-Pacific region, and greater cooperation between India and Indonesia will ensure that the sea lanes of communication are open. In this context, he said that the Malacca Straits carry a very significant amount of world trade and full support will be provided to Indonesia to make sure that the Malacca Straits remain open and do not have the same fate as the Hormuz Straits.
