PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Crosses 50 Lakh Beneficiary Households

Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi today said that the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has crossed 50 lakh beneficiary households in India. Addressing the CII International Energy Conference and Exhibition in New Delhi, the Minister highlighted that currently 19 lakh households are receiving zero electricity bills.

Mr Joshi said that with the scheme, over 12 lakh households have earned four hundred and twenty-one crore rupees by selling the surplus electricity. Talking about the non-fossil capacity, he said that the country is well on the path to achieve the target of 500 gigawatts by 2030. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining close dialogue with industry stakeholders to address sector challenges and pursue new opportunities.

The Minister also informed that the pace of installations of rooftop solar has increased more than 3.2 times in just nine months from five thousand installations per day in October 2025 to over 16 thousand per day in July 2026.

During the event, New and Renewable Energy Minister inaugurated the exhibition showcasing cutting-edge clean energy technologies. He also released the report, India’s Energy Technology Choices for 2030-2047, outlining the technological roadmap for India’s sustainable energy future.(UPDATED ON 6TH AUGUST 2026)
