Defence Ministry Rejects Media Reports Regarding Sacrifice Of 6 Bravehearts During Operation Sindoor

The Defence Ministry has clarified that reports circulating in sections of the media and on social media claiming that the supreme sacrifice of six bravehearts during Operation Sindoor has been acknowledged publicly for the first time only recently are factually incorrect.
The Ministry said the nation had paid homage to the fallen soldiers at the earliest opportunity. It said the then Director General of Military Operations had paid tribute to the six bravehearts during the official press conference on May 11 last year.
The soldiers were also conferred gallantry awards, which were announced in a press release issued on August 14 last year. It added that the Indian Army’s official social media platforms had also carried tributes to the bravehearts.
The Ministry said the names of the fallen soldiers are engraved on the National War Memorial through an established protocol and any suggestion that due process was not followed is factually incorrect.
It added that such narratives misrepresent facts, cause unnecessary anguish to the bereaved families and detract from the dignity of those who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
The Ministry has also urged all stakeholders to exercise responsibility and restraint while reporting on matters relating to fallen soldiers and refrain from disseminating unverified information.(UPDATED ON 28TH JUNE 2026)
