Government Raises Passport Application Fees

Government has hiked the fees for application of passports, with a 36-page fresh passport or reissue of passport now costing 2,500 rupees. The Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026 will come into force with effect from 1st of July. In a notification, the Ministry of External Affairs said that under the new fee structure, a fresh passport or reissue of passport under Tatkal will cost five thousand rupees. The fee for a 60-page ordinary passport or reissue will be 3500 rupees, and under Tatkal, this will attract six thousand rupees. The existing fee for a 36-page passport is 1,500 rupees and for a 60-page passport is two thousand rupees.

In case of an ordinary passport in lieu of a lost or damaged passport containing 36 pages, a sum of five thousand rupees will be charged. For an ordinary passport in lieu of lost or damaged passport containing 60 pages, the cost will be six thousand rupees. (updated on 25th june 2026)
