The 35th meeting of the WMCC on India-China Border Affairs held in Beijing

The 35th meeting of the WMCC on India-China Border Affairs was held in Beijing yesterday. The Indian delegation was led by Sujit Ghosh, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by Hou Yanchi, Director General of the Department of Boundary and Oceanic Affairs of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, discussions between both sides were constructive, positive, and forward-looking.

At the meeting held in Beijing, both countries conducted a comprehensive review of the current situation in the India-China border areas. Satisfaction was also expressed over the progress made toward maintaining peace and stability in the border regions. Both sides acknowledged that continued peace in the border areas has helped accelerate the gradual normalization of bilateral relations.

During the talks, detailed discussions were held on various issues related to border delimitation, border management, strengthening coordination mechanisms, and cross-border cooperation. The Indian side particularly emphasized the early convening of the next meeting of the Expert Level Mechanism on Trans-Border Rivers to discuss issues related to cross-border rivers. Both countries agreed to maintain regular dialogue and communication at diplomatic and military levels. For this purpose, mechanisms agreed upon during the 24th Special Representative (SR) talks will also be utilized. (UPDATED ON 28TH MAY 2026)
