Record turnout of 92.65% in West Bengal Assembly election,mixed prediction in other states

Most of the exit polls have predicted BJP retaining power in Assam. Exit polls conducted by several TV channels and private firms are showing BJP victory in the state. According to the polls, BJP led alliance is expected to get around 87 to 100 seats, while Congress is expected to secure around 26 to 36 seats.

In West Bengal, some of the exit polls are predicting BJP victory while others have forecast win for TMC. According to exit polls, BJP is expected to win around 140 to 160 seats whereas TMC is likely to secure around 120 to 140 seats.

West Bengal Assembly election

There was a record turnout of 92.65% in the second and final phase of polling for the West Bengal Assembly election on Wednesday (April 29, 2026), amidst isolated incidents of unrest and violence. This means the total turnout across two phases of polling in the State stands at nearly 93%, the highest rate of polling in any West Bengal Assembly election since Independence, according to the State’s Chief Electoral Officer.

In the second phase, polling was held in 142 Assembly seats spread across seven districts in south Bengal. The highest polling rates were recorded in the rural-dominated areas of Purba Bardhaman (93.39%), followed by the Hooghly (91.41%), South 24 Parganas (91.45%), North 24 Parganas (91.39 %), and Nadia (91.35%) districts.

Kerala,
Meanwhile, in Kerala, Congress is likely to come back to power as per exit polls. Exit polls have predicted Congress led UDF winning 75 to 90 seats while LDF is expected to win in 45 to 60 seats.

Tamil Nadu

Most exit polls in Tamil Nadu have shown a clear win for DMK-led alliance. Exit polls have predicted DMK to clinch around 112 to 140 seats with AIADMK securing 60 to 100 seats.

Puducherry

In Puducherry, Exit polls have forecast NDA alliance to win 16 to 20 seats with the DMK-Congress alliance winning 6 to 8 seats. Counting of votes for the assembly polls will be held on 4th of May.

According to the Election Commission, Assam recorded a voter turnout of 85.38 percent, while Puducherry saw 89.83 percent, both the highest ever in their Assembly election history. In Kerala, polling stood at 78.03 percent.(UPDATED ON 29TH APRIL 2026)
