Nordic countries decided to form Green Tech and Innovation Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India and Nordic countries have decided to give their relations the form of Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership.
Mr Modi made the remarks while addressing a joint press meet with leaders of Nordic nations after attending the third India-Nordic Summit in Norwegian capital, Oslo today. Prime Ministers of Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland and Denmark also took part in the media briefing.
Prime Minister Modi said, with this Green Technology Partnership, they will connect Iceland’s expertise in geothermal and fisheries, Norway’s expertise in blue economy and Arctic, and all Nordic countries’ expertise in maritime and sustainability to India’s skills to ensure a better future for the entire world. With the formation of this unique Strategic Partnership between India and Nordic countries, they will connect Sweden’s advance manufacturing and defence, Finland’s telecom and digital technology and Denmark’s cyber security and health tech, with India’s talent to develop trusted solutions for the entire world.
Prime Minister Modi said, to provide energy and speed to India’s relations with Nordic countries, they formed this format eight years ago. He said, in past ten years, their bilateral trade has increased about four times. He highlighted that Investment fund of Nordic countries is becoming an important partners in India’s rapid growth. He asserted that in the last decade, investment from Nordic countries into India has increased by about 200 per cent.
Mr Modi said, rapidly increasing trade and investment have contributed to India’s growth story. He said, it has also played a very positive role in the economy of Nordic countries, and created thousands of new jobs.
Prime Minister Modi said to take thir relations to the next level, they took a few important initiatives recently. From October 2025, they have brought Trade and Economic Partnership into effect with Norway, Iceland and other EFTA (European Free Trade Association) nations. He said, a few months ago, India-EU Free Trade Agreement was signed, which also has Denmark, Finland and Sweden as partners. Mr Modi said, with this ambitious trade agreement, a new golden age for relations between India and the Nordic countries will be initiated. (UPDATED ON 19TH MAY 2026)
