All India Motor Transport Congress on strike, No transport vehicle on roads

The All India Motor Transport Congress today gave concrete shape to the Chakka Jam call to press for its demands and with this, thousands of transport businessmen and drivers blocked the roads with their vehicles.Call for a three-day road Chakka Jam will continue. During the three day period all owners, employees, and drivers associated with the transport business will suspend their work on the roads.

Delhi Transport Association’s (DTA) chief patron Gurinder Pal Singh, President Rohit Ahuja, General Secretary Narendra Kumar Dhingra, and Treasurer Baldev Raj Dua today said in a statement that all the teams formed to stop work and make the Chakka Jam successful performed their duties at all the borders of Delhi NCR. Everyone stood on the roads all night and requested the truck drivers coming to Delhi not to load or unload any any goods in their vehicles in Delhi for three days because our future depends on its success.

The DTA demands are that the increased ECC imposed on all freight vehicles entering Delhi be immediately withdrawn. Further more, ECC should only be applied to transit vehicles that use Delhi as a corridor, and the restrictions on BS-IV commercial vehicles should be immediately lifted. BS-IV vehicles should be immediately exempted from ECC.

DTA stated that approximately 68 transport unions in Delhi-NCR have supported the “Chakka Jam” symbolic strike. The strike is fully underway and moving strongly in the right direction.The transport fraternity is united, determined and fully committed to making this movement a strong and successful voice against unjust and anti-transport policies.

He stated that no rumors, pressure, or misleading information will weaken the morale of transporters. This movement has the full support of the entire transport community, and all colleagues are urged to stand united to protect the future and dignity of the transport industry.(UPDATED ON 21ST MAY 2026)
